Subsurface drip irrigation system is a low-pressure irrigation system with high efficiency. This systems use buried bellow the ground surface irrigation hoses that satisfy the plant's water needs. As water is delivered to the plant underground, the unwanted effects of the above ground irrigation such as swamping, land cracking and potential surface drainage ( soil erosion ) are eliminated. Subsurface irrigation saves water and improves yields by eliminating the evaporation of surface water and reducing the spread of weeds and diseases. Water spreads directly on the root zone of the crops, not on the soil surface, where the majority of the weed seeds germinate. As a result, the amount of weeds is significantly reduced. In addition, some crops can benefit from extra heat provided by dry surface conditions, by producing more biomass.
